FotoRoman 6.4 Istanbul 5 Days 2005, 2-6 November 2005
Day 5: 6th November 2005, GRAND BAZAAR and the Prize Ceremony
Grand Bazaar, the oldest and still in use shopping mall in the world.
Everyday thousands of people visit this labyrinth. The historical doors are shut on Sundays, the Grand Bazaar will have weekly rest. As in 2004, special entrance permission was taken for Istanbul 5 Days' final spirint.
Kürkcüler Hall was the gathering area. Participants left belonging here and moved to Nuruosmaniye Gate for the start. Grand Bazar was a crowed and mystic place for them and remained asa myth untill individual start times. ->>
<<- Different from other days, only two particapant from all categories stared every minute. All courses are very short and fast running, so-called "super sprint".
Courses may be short but nothing changed at the altitudes of participants. Nothing ends before Day 5 comes to the end. This day requires extra concentration to complete the course without any mistakes = without time loss. A model sports-family from Moscow: Aleksey Gorbachov (E 21L), Darya Kalimullina (K 12), Alexandr Gorbachov (E 10), Tatyana Gorbachova (K 21). ->>
<<- Time for promoting other multiday events. Kaponik Open organising club Jesenica OK had support from sponsors and they are successfull at making us dream a trip to Serbia. Club president Zoran Milovanovic (E 35, in the stand) said he was very fonf of Istanbul & Istanbul 5 Days.
Back to the courses; running fast in a mall made of streets and halls is the easy part. What made difference was running without any mistakes. Many pauses for a second just like this young lady after the start. Believe it or not, who were running blind "for a very short time" lost maaannny more seconds than her.
->>
<<- Organisers had arranged a public finish. This area was both for applausing the last control (100) punchs and getting used to the atmosphere before the start.
What happened in the Bazaar? Running through gloomy corridors opening to bright sun gardens, up the stairs to famous "green" controls to 1 or 2 floors up… At K18 two charming ladies were running head to head for a while: Lyoboslava Nikolava (Bulgaria) ve Marta Zdravkovic (Serbia Montengro). ->>
<<-
Marta ran the best time at Grand Bazaar but in overall, she was still 9 minutes behind Lyoboslava and the Silver medalist.
Reading map while running on plain floor was not a hard thing but keeping concentration despite the "helpfull" security people required command. Dirk Goossens (E 35) from Belqium did a good run. ->>
<<- Some streets are really narrow, some stairways are easiy to fall-off from. Veselin Minev (E 18) from Bulgaria pays attention to the stairs…
It is not surprising to punch next to a historical piece or authentic scenery. A water pool with a small fountain.
->>
<<- Some ran on "fire". Aykun from Istanbul was running madly and no camera could take a good shot of him. His run rised applause at spectator passages but was a typical "run & search" and he was placed 8th in the end of the day.
You can not imagine a race in Grand Bazaar without fountains. If you did not approached from the right direction, those fountains hided controls untill last meter. Many Turkish runners could attend only a couple of days due to religious holiday, just like Boni Salis (E 21).

<<-
After everybody was back, it was time for results. Awarding the efforts of 5 long days… Mens hardest course was E 21L . All medals goes to neighbor Bulgaria: 1. Lachezar Iliev (26), 2. Zdrakov Taralov (21), 3.Dian Bonev (35)
Without a doubt, toughest course for women was K 21L. Iliana Shandurkova (21) ve Natalya Dimitrova (20) from Bulgaria recieved gold and silver as bronze goes to Russia: Alevtina Marycheva (21).
->>
<<- An unexpected song came just after the medal ceremony for the sake of friendship; vocals by Linda Verbraken (K 35, Belqium) ve Tugba Saglamdemir (K10, Türkiye)
Not all meadlists could be in one single shot. We appolise from whom are not veiwed. Now it's time for goodbye…New acquaintanceship and friendships we planed to be contiuned by e-mails and at events following years. Particapants settled fo their journey back home, we started to put down all the setup.->>
