Day 00: BACK STAGE; Kitchen Stories

Many people witnessed the previous stories, but what happened in the kitchen of the competition?

At the very begining, it was all a sand cloud. The last meeting and rehearsal took place in KÖMÜRCÜ BENDİ one week before the competition on 30 October. From left to right Caner, Özgür(standing), Tatiana, Ali, Hasan, Hande, Gonca (s), Alex. Azaz family is taking the picture. ->>

<<- A view of a typical finish table. Manual timers, SI-alex, and competitors around. In this shot, Federation observer Muttalip Gülbudak is asking about the competition.

Bananas or fruit juice were available at the end of the course each day. We tried to put people with least appetite in charge of this duty, however… ->>

<<- "I didn't know today's starting point was so far… anyways, I don't have much left."

Mehmet Kasap must be asking Tatiana to translate a word to Russian, or maybe he is talking about the last bananas he ate… ->>

<<- Each day tents were assembled at the start and the finish lines. Assembling, disassembling, and moving tents required team work. Bilal, Özgür, Ali Çelebi, Gonca.

All the equipment was carried to the competition area in boxes. ->>

<<- The competitors were excited to see the pre-eliminary results that were updated every 10-15 minutes on the board.

The finish table always required attention in order to realize the great efforts of hundreds of people. We thank everyone that made it possible to have a faultless start and finish throughout the competition. Hasan, Ali Celebi, and Alex are in a busy moment. ->>

<<- Waiting for the competitors, 3rd Day. From left to right: caner, hasan, hande, gonca kılınc, gaye, ali kılınc, gökalp celebi , ali celebi, and zeynep.

The Sport Ident electronic system used at controls made it a lot easier to determine the runtime and placement of the competitors. Each night, 50 control stations were programmed and set on the course by 4 people. ->>

<<- We (course setters) carried the Ismail Hakki product carrying bags and assembly parts, which we call "the Bazooka", for the SI's.

And it is time for Kapalıçarşı. We designated the Nuruosmaniye Door with the Cami Kapısı... Caner on the move. ->>

<<- We had to protect the medals. Gaye is entrusted with the medals that people competed for 4 days.

Don't misunderstand. Our friend Levent from the ambulance is telling us how he broke his wrist. The cure of the bald story… (In Turkish we have a saying: If the bold had a cream, he would apply to his head.) ->>

<<- Hasan and grape juice. Thanks again to Dimes.
